THE 80'S MORE FIGURES and GOLDEN TEXTURES

She stayed in Venice, Italy and studied art and particularly, batik at the prestigious Academia della Arte for 1 year and she fell in love with the city. She learned the batik technique and started to paint her “mask portraits” by using this new technique on fabric. She had her first batik exhibition in 1979. She also created her first installation, named the “Votive Tree”, by using 50 meter fabrics, created with the batik technique, in “Findikli Park”, a public park in Istanbul.
Sevil Soyer added gold colored lace texture to her art in these years. The figure-shaped formations, the second element of the form, are in permanent interrelation with the texture. Some figures are directly formed from the texture, especially from the lace texture. She tried to carry her masks into the three dimensional “puppets” in this period either.
